The Moonshot International Symposium
“Diverse plant genetic resources for future sustainable agriculture”

Objective

In our project, “Achieving zero food risks by improving crop robustness using cyber-physical systems”, which is project of “Moonshot Research and Development Program for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries”, we have started research with the goals of solving food risks, and contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To reach those goals, we will develop a new cyber crop design technology that can quickly and freely develop crops with high environmental adaptability by making full use of the biological functions of wild plants.

Currently, the number of plants that we humans use as food is limited, and it is said that recent environmental changes will cause enormous damage to their production. On the other hand, wild plants have high potential for environmental adaptation. In this project, we aim to understand the tough stress tolerance specific process of these and develop the technology that can be used for crop breeding.

This time, we will hold a symposium for the purpose of sharing domestic and international research trends on the diversity and resilience of plant genetic resources such as wild plants and discussing the potential of those genetic resources in future sustainable agriculture.
